HISTORY

The Justice Theater Project was formed in 2004 within the community of St Francis of Assisi in Raleigh, NC. This Mother Jones article from 2005 details the origins of The Justice Theater Project.

The Mission of The Justice Theater Project is to produce compelling theater experiences that create community dialogue and give voice to social concerns.

The Justice Theater Project takes a unique approach to fulfilling our mission:

  • We identify a specific social justice issue as our focus for the season

  • We select shows that explore or reflect the social justice issue on which we’re focused

  • We partner with local non-profits whose work aligns with our chosen issue through our Spotlight Advocate Program.

  • We seek experts (Professors, researchers, authors, etc.) to lead pre-show discussions on our chosen social justice issue.

  • We seek to inform and offer our community the opportunity to take action.

This approach is impactful.  We strive to provide a richer and deeper theatrical experience.  Join us as, together, we learn, explore and engage to give voice to social concerns.
